Gunmen, under the suspected employment of organized-crime boss Al Capone, murdered seven members of George "Bugs" Moran's North Siders gang in a garage on 2122 North Clark Street. At 5:03 a.m., snow began falling all over the Chicago area. By midnight the area was covered in over 23 inches of snow with drifts of more than six feet. It is estimated that 75 million tons of snow fell on Chicago. Some of it was sent south in empty railcars as a present to Florida children who had never seen snow before.

John Wayne Gacy confessed to killing 33 young boys between 1972 and 1978. All 33 murders took place in his home. Gacy was executed on May 19, 1994 at Statesville Prison in Joliet. His last meal was fried chicken and butterfly shrimp.
